How did you get involved with wild horses? Where does your interest stem from?
I've always been passionate about horses, and was exposed to the complex mustang issues initially by the documentary "Unbranded." It left me wanting to know more, and since seeing the film, I often daydreamed about adopting one. This project has been the perfect opportunity to make that dream a reality, as well as educate myself even further on the subject of wild horses.

In terms of the trip, what are you most excited about? What are you most nervous about?
I'm honestly just so excited to spend 40 days "off the grid" with great friends & a whole herd of horses! I love new challenges & adventures, so I'm really looking forward to diving into this one head on! That said, I'm nervous about the "learning-on-the-fly" aspect of our journey, but at the same time, I know that we're a well-rounded team & can support each other with our different strengths. I'm also nervous about brushing my hair after this trip! I have a bad feeling there's gonna be some gnarly wind-knots in there haha.

What are you hoping to take away from the trip on a personal level?
Oh man. I am hoping to come away from this with greater confidence, not just in terms of riding skills, but also just in terms of my sense of self. There's gonna be a lot of time to think out there, and I'm looking forward to seeing the growth we all experience as individuals <3

Do you think you will stay involved with wild horses after the trip?
I would love to! We've talked about a few ways we'd like to continue this project after the end of the documentary, and every time we talk about it, I just feel so inspired and hyped up. Part of the reason I hope this documentary is successful is so that we do get the opportunity & the support to continue working in this realm of wild horses/female empowerment.

What’s something we don’t know about you that we’re likely to discover on the trip?
That I wait until the absolute last second every single time I have to pee hahaha. I never learn - it's an emergency every dang time.

What has been the best part of this project so far? The hardest?
So far, the best part has just been getting closer with Boosh & Louisa - we've really been a huge part of each other's lives for the past (almost three!!!) years, even from afar. Similarly, the amount of incredible individuals we've met while working on this project has been a huge highlight. It feels like the universe is rewarding us by introducing us to some absolute gems that I'm so grateful to know. The hardest part so far has definitely been the decision to postpone the project for a year. We were all pretty heartbroken, and it was a really tough call to make, but it really worked out for the best & I'm grateful we had some extra time to prepare.

Caroline and I have been friends for SIX YEARS NOW (it still feels like we just met :’)* ) I’m so glad she joined onto this trip and can’t wait to have her fun-loving, hard-working, down to earth attitude on the ride. This girl makes me laugh harder than most people I know and that’s SO needed on a trip like this!

Alright, next time you’ll see answers to these questions from me! Until then, stay wild.

xoxo,

Katherine & the wild women 💕
